Brief descriptions of the types of bikes available for rent are below. Click on the bike type for more information.
Basic Bike - An entry-level basic bike designed for comfort. It has fat tires, an upright riding position, a conventional or a step-through/U frame, and typically 21-speed or 7-speed gearing for any terrain. Our most popular rental by students and faculty. Great for campus and local area transportation.
Commuter Bike - A mid-level bike ideal for the roads and paved trails on campus and off. The thinner tires and gearing make for quick and efficient trips for local destinations and for longer rides to the many Bay Area destinations of interest. It is available in either a conventional or a step-through/U frame.
Road Bike - A high-end bike that is light and responsive for fast straight-aways and steep hills on roads and paved trails. These bikes have skinny tires and many have a carbon frame and fork and Shimano components with either triple (27- or 30-speed) or compact (18- or 20-speed) cranks for climbing hills.
